PM about to take Parliament into confidence over Indo-US nuc

The impasse over the Indo-US nuclear deal has reached a new stage with the obstinate stand of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and it seems none of the two sides is in view of going back. The greatest fear to both of them is that any form of backtracking may be regarded as an act of cowardice and worst will ensue in the coming elections.

This became evident from the inner sources of the ruling Congress party that stated the PM is ready to face the Parliament before the deal becomes functional. This is certainly and in all respects a new development since for years Manmohan Singh has been considered as a shower curtain and also diffident before an omnipotent authority of the Gandhi family.

However, it seems that Singh, by means of his resolute point of view, has won over a considerable section of the Congress party, which has emboldened the party’s spirit, and now they are advocating him with all might. To their considerations there is not at all any necessity to get anxious since the PM is a true patriot and places the national interest above everything. But it is also true due to security measures it is not possible to disclose any deal before the appropriate time and this is applicable with any deal.

The highly contentious Indo-US deal, to them, is not going to be violative of the sovereignty of India and even the US has also high regards for the heightening and responsible role of India in the international spectrum. But to brush aside the mounting skepticism in the domestic politics over the deal Dr. Singh is ready to take Parliament into confidence and it will be before the deal gets operational.

Furthermore, to the privileged sources, even the Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi is also supporting the standpoint of Dr Singh and there is no question of going back.

Nevertheless time is running out for the US government for which it is anxious but to ward off the growth of animosity between these two prospective signatories PM will meet President Bush in Japan in the first week of July.
